Kaila A. Lamp
Kaila was born in Winchester, Virginia before promptly being brought home to Bakerton. At the time, her parents were living in her great-grandmother's home, which was constructed from the original Oak Grove Schoolhouse which had educated Bakerton children for generations.
Deeply rooted in the area, her family first settled in present day Bakerton in 1834. Arriving as destitute Irish stonemasons, they found solace in the familiar landscape of Harpers Ferry. Each generation was involved in the limestone industry in varying degrees.
In the early 1900's, her great-grandfather constructed and operated the only presently remaining store in Bakerton, which was subsequently operated by her great-aunt and great-uncle, Dottie and Skeeter Welsh.
It was these tales of her family's triumphs and the stories of other generational area families that inspired her to create the immersive lodging experience of Quarryman's Rest. She believes that the incredible stories and remarkable history that steam from the Harpers Ferry and Bakerton area deserve to be preserved and shared
Growing up, Kaila was active in 4-H, FFA, the American Quarter Horse Association, and the National Barrel Horse Association. Two of her pride and joys, Quarter Horses Twister and Boo, still graze the pastures at her home. An animal lover, you'll also find her rescued hound, Turbo, and numerous rescued cats, and probably calves.
Kaila received an Agribusiness degree from Casper College, graduating with honors. Previously, she ran a successful social media page for family historians. In her spare time, she runs a family and local history website, the Welsh of Harpers Ferry. Family is at the heart of everything she does. When she's not feeding animals, researching local history, crafting historic experiences, or assisting guests, you'll likely find her at home enjoying time with her beloved husband and daughters.
